How to get people walking? Our first step was creating a map of the shortcuts and cut-throughs in the village. We organised a walking day so that volunteers could walk routes around the community between hotspots like Tesco Express and the Cart & Horses. The walkers spotted places where signs might help and made notes on what things could be improved to help people walk.
With a small grant from Winchester City Council we have created a Kings Worthy Walking Map.
It was trialled at the school with the new students and parents in early September and now has been given to all families.
We have launched a local competition over October half term to coincide with a wider distribution of the map and some temporary signs.
The plan is to take the information we have gathered about the walking route and make them into a clickable online map so you can see exactly where the bus stops, letterboxes and dog bins are located.
